elpa-smex software package provides M-x interface with Ido-style fuzzy matching, you can install in your Debian 9 (Stretch) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install elpa-smex
elpa-smex is installed in your system.
Make ensure the elpa-smex package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep elpa-smex *
You will get with elpa-smex package name, version, architecture and description in a table
